Opportunity for an Irish Dance Group

We received this from Norway, and thought it may be of interest to some of our members:

Would you like to dance in Norway?

Please reply as soon as possible…

Folk dance group, Strilaringen, based north of Bergen on the west coast of Norway, are holding a festival 27 June – 3 July 2011. They are looking for an Irish folk dance group from Ireland to perform at the event. They will be able to accommodate the visiting dancers with members and friends of the group, make sure you are fed and have the opportunity to explore some of the lovely landscape of the fjords alongside performing in the festival. Ideally Strilaringen would like to then do an exchange visit to Ireland at some point in the future.

If you are interested please contact Vigleik Vabø - Vigleik.Vabo@lindas.kommune.no as soon as possible and you can also visit www.strilaringen.no to see more information about the host dance group. Please note you don’t need to be able to speak Norwegian – English is fine for communication!

Dance / Body At The Crossroads Of Cultures International Conference

June 16-19, 2011

Nicosia Cyprus

Dance/Body at the Crossroads of Cultures aims to address and re-negotiate questions around dance and the thinking body, with special focus on contested multi-cultural spaces in different parts of the world. The historical location of the theme in the 21st century suggests the urgency with which such issues call for a re-conceptualization of the body in different types of performances and its social and cultural practices in the midst of advancing globalization but also of increasing fragmentation.
